An undiscovered paradise

My name is Gabriel Erofei. I am 25 years old. I am a simple guy, but I grew up in a place considered a true treasure.

At least that is how I perceive it. I was born in the Danube Delta, more precisely in Mahmudia commune, Tulcea county. I have been organizing excursions in the Delta since the age of 18.

I do not consider this a job, even though it is my source of income, I simply do it out of passion. I think I got this crazy desire to explore the Delta lands from my father, Sorin, who was an avid fisherman in his youth and has been organizing excursions for many years.

I consider that I already have experience in the tourism field. When you work in this field, the most important thing is to see the people who contact you satisfied with your services, this gives you a positive boost and makes you continue with more zeal. Now that I have introduced myself, let us move on to the topic, more precisely to the undiscovered paradise.

Mahmudia - an oasis of tranquility

Mahmudia is a commune with a small number of inhabitants. An oasis of tranquility, with an enchanting landscape, due to the fact that it is located on the bank of the Sfantu Gheorghe Branch. In recent years, the inhabitants have focused heavily on tourism, because the Danube Delta must be visited and valued much more. Here you can find campsites, guesthouses, even hotels. In short, accommodation for every preference and every budget.

The Harasuhat Canal and the heart of the Delta

Due to its location, Mahmudia has a great benefit. About 5 years ago, a project was started and a canal called Harasuhat by the locals was successfully dug, with the purpose of shortening access to the heart of the Delta. Following the construction of the canal, the agricultural lands across from Mahmudia were flooded.

In these few years, the flora and fauna in the Harasuhat area developed rapidly. Fish entered here and repopulated, reeds and rushes thickened quickly, and birds gather here in groups of hundreds to find food.

The Litcov Canal and fishing settlements

All of these combined perfectly to form an image as if taken from books. After crossing the area, you reach the longest canal in the Danube Delta, Litcov. The reeds on the edges of the canal give you the impression of being in a tunnel where the roof is represented by the crown of the willows. A special feature of Litcov are the fishing settlements. Houses made only from ecological materials.

The lakes and water lily fields

Further on you will visit some smaller canals leading to the entrance of a chain of lakes. On these lakes you will see a paradise. Dozens of bird species, extremely friendly. The most impressive, in my opinion, is the white-tailed eagle - it seems to me like the King of the Jungle in the Danube Delta.

Another spectacular thing are the water lily paths... YES! You heard right! I said water lily paths... Literally hundreds of white and yellow water lilies seemingly attached to each other, with a space between them where only a boat can pass. Amazing photos come out of here! However, do not overlook the other species of birds and plants. Unfortunately the fish are underwater, but if you enjoy sport fishing, we inform you that such excursions are also organized.

I would like to tell you much more, but it is much more interesting when everything happens here. P.S. the most beautiful sunset is in the Danube Delta...
